Nyaung U, Bagan, Myanmar
After a very long tiring day's travel we arrived at our hotel in Nyaung U to find there had been a misunderstanding about our booking. The hotel was full and we had no place to stay. All the other hotels were full as well. The manageress on duty said it we were prepared to wait an hour until she came off duty we could go home with her and sleep in her spare bedroom. This we gladly accepted. My sister and I slept head to toe in a bed that was little wider than a single. In the morning we were given a great breakfast. The kind lady refused point blank to accept payment. This is an unfinished very rough sketch of her house.
Shwe Yaunghwe Kyaung, Nyaungshwe, Myanmar
At Nyaungshwe we hired a couple of bikes and cycled out to this Buddhist monastery.
It is built of teak, and famous for its oval windows.
Nyaungshwe Lake Inle, Myanmar
The building is a rather swish place. Aqua Lilies day spa and beauty center.
The locals are doing their daily ablutions in the river. A mother is washing her young son. A woman is washing her hair. Another is doing her laundry. A boy is standing washing himself. A teenage girl is splashing around right in the water.
Lake Inle, Myanmar
We hired a small boat and driver to take us down to the bottom of Lake Inle to the little village of Thaung Tho where a morning market was on the go. On the way back we stopped and sketched some houses on stilts.
Kyauk Kalap Pagoda
Sketch of Kyauk Kalap Pagoda. There is a pagoda on the top on this strange outcrop of rock on an island in the middle of a lake.. We walked across the bridge and were allowed to climb half way up.
